Ronny Deila is a disgrace for questioning Anthony Stokes level of commitment to Celtic and his team mates. He has proven on harder fields than Ronny has ventured onto the level of commitment that’s needed by players of our fine club. As Jock Stein famously said “Celtic Jerseys are not for second best, They don’t shrink to fit inferior players” and to talk of such a loyal and combative servant as Anthony Stokes in such a way is plain disgusting.
Deila is himself to blame for the angst that Anthony is going through, completely left out of the team for the entire campaign and with little reason to accompany it. We have picked up Carlton Cole to play the exact role that Stokesy has played for us, a combative target man. That Stokes has not complained about this and has happily trained away waiting for his opportunity shows his lack of respect for the club he has played for with distinction.
Consummate team man. Stokes trains with his would be replacement.
Ronny Deila has presided over a disastourous campaign in Europe where Stokes was snubbed for every match. Our lack of firepower has been evident and Griffiths has been found wanting not so much for skill but for options. Why are Stokesy and Griff not playing together week in week out from the kick off? Celtic have for as long as I have remembered had a target man and a smaller quicker man as their strike partnership. Larsson and Sutton/Hartson, Big Jan VoH and Skippy, Stokes and Hooper and then Stokes and Griffiths. When we have lamented our lack of firepower why is it that a proven gun is sitting not just on the sidelines but in the stand.
Happier days for Stokes and current leader of the line Griffiths.
If I were Stokes I wouldn’t put in a transfer request, but I would look to go out on loan. He tweeted that he didn’t merely want to pick up wages but to play football for them, itself an admirable statement. There is little chance Stokes will feature again this year, even if we need him as we have tellingly needed him, particularly in Europe. But I feel as many will agree that the Ronny Deila era may see the winter but will be lucky to see the Summer.
