Substance over rhetoric

Celtic are not a team which is renown for overspending. The current activity at Paradise is heartening to all Celtic fans as the long awaited reinforcements are coming in to strengthen some visibly weak areas of the first team. We are in need of defenders and another striker and so the arrival of Erik Sviatchenko goes someway to answering the direction that Deila wants to take the Hoops.

The other targets from Croatia are not overly expensive but at the same time are not dirt cheap either, the club seems content with spending in the millions instead of hundreds and thousands for once. In my opinion Celtic should look at another defender, possibly a right back and a striker to pair up with Griffiths.

Across town we have seen a team that needs everything but a penalty taker trying to buy players with anything but money. Sevco are in an era of Bosmans, pre contracts and trialists with their agents video displayed on the Daily Record’s website. The deluded will probably get back up for next year, or have the league restructured. Either way we are going to have to play them. That we are investing now and giving these players time to gel before taking on Sevco will stand us in good stead.

The real importance however is not them, it is Europe. Ronny knows full well he is skating on thin ice, a loss to Ross County in the League Cup Final will likely have him sacked before he leaves the stadium. The players he is assembling now must be up to the task of navigating the Champions League qualifiers. The first player has arrived, lets hope for a few more, win the treble, strengthen the squad, qualify for Europe and then get back to what Hoops do best.
