4 years ago today Duff and Phelps were called in by HMRC and the beginning of the end gained pace. As football continued to be played against an insolvent team, Celtic strolled to the title with an increased points lead due to the Oldco’s falling into admin. We cruised to the “title in the bag” and toyed with Rangers as it entered its death throes. The last of the 399 derbies ever played saw Celtic run out emphatic 3-0 winners as we toyed with our eternal nemesis like a cat with a half dead mouse.
Of course we all know how it ended but moments after starting a Newco and renaming it from Sevco Scotland on July 31 2012 the continuity myth was born and we have had an attack on reason itself ever since. But for now, let us rejoice in the unbroken history at Parkhead, the profit we have posted, the Premiership we are contesting and the Gold Star above our crest. Because of what happened 4 years ago this day, none of these things can be said over at Ibrox.
